It may only be early November, but Florida residents better start looking for those jackets and heavy sweaters.

The season's first freeze is expected to arrive early next week, driving down temperatures almost 20 degrees over 24 hours in some areas.

Before then, though, warmer temperatures are in the forecast this week. Just to keep you on your toes, of course.

"This will be the coldest air of the season so far by a significant margin," said Fox Weather meteorologist Ian Oliver via email Nov. 5.

The first freeze of the season is becoming increasingly probable early next across the Panhandle, according to the National Weather Service Mobile.

"A very impressive blast of cold air is expected to dive into the Southeast early next week," said Alex DaSilva, AccuWeather meteorologist, via email Nov. 5.

"This is all associated with the very strong cold front diving across the Southeast. This will likely be the most significant period of cold we have seen so far this fall as colder air moves south from central and northern Canada.

"Temperatures across the eastern half of the nation — including all the way to South Florida — can be 8-16 degrees below historical averages.

"I think the coldest period for Florida will be Monday night (Nov. 10) into Tuesday morning (Nov. 11, which also happens to be Veterans Day).

"I think there could be some daily record lows that could be challenged during this time.

"Northern Florida can see temperatures in some areas dip below freezing. Some frost can occur in the Panhandle on Tuesday morning. Any outdoor plants or crops may need to be protected if the forecast remains on track."

"Jacksonville (mid 30s) and Lakeland (low 40s) could both set daily record cold low temperatures," Oliver said.

Florida cold snap won't last long

"For folks that don't subscribe to winter and don't love the sound of all this — hang in there, it won't last long," Oliver said.

"Tuesday is the coldest morning but temperatures will be back to about average by the end of the work week."

Tallahassee recorded 1.9 inches, the second-highest amount on record, according to the National Weather Service.

A 200-mile section of Interstate 10 in the Panhandle was closed the day after snow fell.

Pensacola also saw a record low temperatures of 13 degrees on Jan. 22.

College football fans have entered Week 2 of a coverage blackout that started when YouTube TV dropped ESPN, ABC and all other networks owned by Disney.

The fight between the two corporate monoliths came to a head Oct. 30, when their carriage contract expired. Google-owned YouTube TV has become one of the most popular streaming services for sports fans, letting them watch a multitude of games in one place thanks to its wide library that includes NBC, Fox and CBS, as well as NFL Sunday Ticket. But sports fans found themselves out of luck last week as the full college football slate on the ESPN family of networks, not to mention Monday Night Football in the NFL and the start of college basketball season, remained out of reach on a platform with 10 million reported subscribers.

This week, that means the wildly popular "College GameDay" pregame show, as well as the BYU-Texas Tech game it's broadcasting from, will be impacted, as well as games involving Florida's three biggest college football teams. Florida State travels to Death Valley for a primetime showdown with Clemson in a game that could determine whether Mike Norvell or Dabo Swinney is the next big-time coach fired. No. 18 Miami hopes to keep its slim College Football Playoff dreams alive against Syracuse, and the Florida Gators face Kentucky seeking interim coach Billy Gonzales' first win. Florida Atlantic and Florida International also play on ESPN's digital streaming service.

The ongoing dispute risks having fans lose out on the entire CFP, with each week's rankings reveals and all playoff games on ESPN and ABC, as well as most of bowl season and the college volleyball and soccer championships. And if this is a permanent situation, the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals are in danger.

There are still options for Florida fans. Here's what to know about the YouTube-Disney dispute and how to watch each major college football game involving Florida teams:

Has YouTube TV settled with Disney?

Not yet. Google, YouTube's parent company, and Disney, which owns ESPN, could not agree on pricing, leading YouTube to carry through its threat to take down Disney programming at the expiration of their old deal Oct. 30. According to the Sports Business Journal, Google was looking for carrier prices similar to what Disney has with cable companies Comcast and Charter. The company also accused Disney of looking to steer customers to Hulu, its own live TV provider.

Videos featuring ESPN personalities such as Stephen A. Smith and Mike Greenberg, as well as college football coaches including Miami's Mario Cristobal, have been shared far and wide on social media in an attempt to steer public sentiment against YouTube dropping the networks. Not all parties have been on board with that though: Pat McAfee, whose popular podcast airs on ESPN and who stars on the network's "College GameDay" pregame show every Saturday, said Disney's constant pushes are just "pissing everybody off even more."

Disney asked Google to put ABC back on YouTube TV for its election night coverage Nov. 4, but the company declined and publicly submitted a counteroffer on the YouTube blog site: "To truly achieve what is best for our mutual customers, we propose immediately restoring the Disney channels that our customers watch: ABC and the ESPN networks, while we continue to negotiate. Those are the channels that people want." Disney responded only by pointing to its original statements in which it accused Google of "refusing to pay fair rates" for their channels.

When is ESPN coming back to YouTube TV?

It's unclear when the dispute will end, though Google and Disney have both said in public statements they are working toward a resolution. Google reaffirmed that if Disney channels remain unavailable "for an extended period of time," it would offer YouTube TV subscribers a $20 credit, and some subscribers are finding an additional but unrelated $60 credit in their accounts.

An Arctic front is diving deep into the United States this weekend, sending temperatures plummeting across all 48 contiguous states — yes, even Florida.

The widespread cold blast will deliver the season’s most significant chill so far, with many areas expecting their first hard freeze and morning lows dipping well below average, according to the Climate Prediction Center.

Forecast maps from the National Weather Service show freezing temperatures stretching from the northern Rockies to the Gulf Coast, reaching parts of central and northern Florida by early next week.

Subfreezing temps expected across US

A surge of frigid air will sweep across the U.S. starting Friday, Nov. 7, moving from the Northern Rockies and Plains southeast toward the Great Lakes and the Southeast, and finally reaching Florida by early next week.

Temperatures will dip below freezing in parts of all Lower 48 states, including Florida’s subtropical regions, Louisiana’s swamplands and the mountains of California.

When will cold weather hit Florida?

The cold air will begin rolling into Florida late Sunday, Nov. 9, and continue through Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, peaking late Monday into early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service area forecast discussion. During this brief but intense chill, even daytime highs Monday will fall 25–30 degrees below Sunday’s readings.

Lows are expected to rebound into the 40s and 50s by Thursday morning, bringing relief from the season’s first widespread cold snap.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The morning begins under a dense, milky fog that clings to the hills and pine stands around the capital. Headlights slice through visibility of barely a mile in spots, and drivers along I-10 and U.S. 319 should plan extra time on their morning routes. The haze lifts by midmorning, revealing another bright, unseasonably warm day — the kind more typical of late September than early November.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee expects today’s highs to climb to around 81°F, with calm winds and abundant sunshine once the fog burns off. Those planning outdoor activities or travel later this morning should see improving visibility and dry roads through midday.

Friday brings another warm and mostly sunny stretch, but subtle changes begin to form in the atmosphere. Moisture increases from the Gulf, setting the stage for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms by late Friday night into Saturday. While severe weather isn’t expected, brief downpours and lightning could interrupt early weekend plans, especially west of the city and across the Apalachicola National Forest.

By Sunday, drier and slightly cooler air filters in from the northwest, dropping highs into the low 80s with lower humidity. Skies clear by Monday, setting up a crisp and sunny start to Veterans Day Tuesday, with highs near 70°F and lows dipping into the 40s.

It’s a classic November transition week — fog to heat to a few late-week storms — reminding residents that cooler, more seasonal air isn’t far behind.

United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket will launch from Cape Canaveral on Wednesday, Nov. 5, during a 44-minute window opening at 10:24 p.m. ET. A visibility map from ULA shows the trajectory and flight path (see below).

Depending on weather and cloud cover, Floridians (and visitors) as far as Jacksonville, Cape Coral and Miami could see it light up the sky after liftoff from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Visibility from most of Florida is possible, according to ULA.

What's on board ULA Atlas V? The ViaSat-3 Flight 2 (F2), described as an “ultra-high-capacity broadband spacecraft” for the company Viasat. The spacecraft is expected to greatly increase the current capability of Viasat’s satellite fleet.

This Atlas V launch will see the rocket quickly propelled off the pad under the power of five solid rocket boosters — giving a great show to those watching.

In Florida, we can best see this moment in person, particularly if you're anywhere on the Space Coast (Melbourne, Florida, area), the Fun Coast (Daytona Beach area) or the Treasure Coast (Vero Beach, Jensen Beach and Fort Pierce).

This satellite rocket launch is extra special because of the potential to see it in other states. In the past, readers have submitted photos or posted on social platforms pictures of SpaceX Falcon Heavy, which is made up of three Falcon 9 rocket first stages, visible from Myrtle Beach. Other rocket launches have been spotted in New Jersey and Georgia.
