What are the Benefits of Buying a New or Used Shipping Container for Sale in Syracuse, NY?

When we speak to our clients about their shipping container experience, they often cite benefits like:

20ft Cargo Container Delivery Syracuse, NY

Durability

One of the main reasons shipping containers are favored across various industries is their remarkable durability. Like Erie Canal Monument in Syracuse, NY, these containers are engineered to endure the harsh conditions of the open sea, including fierce storms, strong winds, and extreme cold temperatures.

Constructed from steel, shipping containers are coated with a specialized paint that safeguards against corrosion, ensuring they remain reliable for many years. Additionally, each container is capable of supporting heavy loads and can be stacked efficiently, maximizing space during transport.

Versatility

One of the biggest benefits of shipping containers is their versatility. While freight containers are great for storage, they can also serve as office spaces. In fact, with a little creativity, you can use your shipping container as both an office and a storage area. Blairworx Logistics' shipping containers for sale are great for a range of uses in many industries, including:

  • Logistics
  • Government
  • Retail
  • Industrial

Maintenance

When it comes to shipping containers, the main replacement you'll need to think about every few years is the door gaskets. Shipping containers are designed for low maintenance, but it's still important to carry out an annual inspection to check for any areas where rust might start to form.

Easy Delivery

Shipping containers are delivered by truck. Before unloading, make sure there's enough space for the truck to drop off the container. At Blairworx, our team is happy to help you assess how much room you need for a shipping container drop-off. A good rule of thumb is to allow an area about twice the length of the container, with extra room in a straight line. For optimal placement, containers should be on level ground, especially in areas prone to flooding, where elevation is key.

Which Industries Benefit Most from New and Used Shipping Containers?

The shipping container, originally designed for global transportation, has transformed into one of the most versatile innovations of our time. Made primarily from durable Corten steel, shipping containers are perfect for many uses in a wide range of industries. Let's check out a few of the most popular.

Onsite Storage Shipping Containers for Sale in Syracuse, NY

Whether you're expanding your commercial operations or moving out of your house, at some point, there's a chance you'll need additional storage. According to recent data, nearly 40% of Americans are currently using self-storage. If you need a short-term solution, a storage facility might work. But if you have long-lasting storage needs, it could be time to explore a more affordable solution.

Monthly Storage Options vs. Shipping Containers for Sale in Syracuse, NY

Twenty years ago, shipping containers were not easily attainable for the average person. Nowadays, you can buy a container from Blairworx and have it delivered right to your business or home on the same day. In many parts of the United States, a 20ft shipping container-which provides long-lasting solutions for building, storage, and shipping-can be purchased for less than what you would pay for a year of traditional climate-controlled storage.

A Reliable Long-Term Investment

When thinking about storage options, money is often a big factor in making a choice. At first, renting a storage unit might seem like a simpler and cheaper option because there aren't many costs upfront. But if you look at the big picture, buying a storage container from Blairworx Logistics can save you more money in the long run. When you own a shipping container, you pay once instead of making regular rental payments that can add up over time.

One of the best things about having your own storage container is how flexible it is. Unlike traditional storage units that are stuck in one place, a container from Blairworx can be set up exactly where you want it. This makes it very easy to access your goods when you need them. This feature is especially helpful for business owners who need to grab their items often or need storage closer to their storefront or office.

We’re also not including places that are rumored to be truly haunted by actual ghosts. This is the fun stuff, though it can be just as (if not more so) terrifying.

An Upstate New York educator has won an award after a U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement raid disrupted her school and community earlier this year.

Jennifer Gaffney, superintendent of the Sackets Harbor Central School District in the North Country, was named Superintendent of the Year for 2026 by the New York State Council of School Superintendents. She will also represent New York as the state’s official nominee for National Superintendent of the Year, awarded by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) in February.

The NYSCOSS praised Gaffney for her “visionary yet practical leadership” including the creation of a support center for social-emotional, mental health and academic services, as well as her “courage, compassion, and conviction through two major challenges - the COVID-19 pandemic and a regional immigration crisis - grounding her district’s response in student-centered values and transparent, inclusive communication. Her calm, principled leadership during these critical moments, paired with her unyielding commitment to doing what’s best for students, earned her Superintendent of the Year nominations in 2021 and again in 2025.”

Gaffney was among the officials who denounced ICE’s “enhanced targeted operations” that arrested multiple people at a dairy farm in Jefferson County, including a woman and her three children, in March. The kids, who were students in Gaffney’s district at an elementary school and high school, were sent to Texas with their mother and returned to Sackets Harbor after more than a week in custody.

The award was announced Monday. Gaffney will be formally honored during The Council’s Winter Institute, scheduled for March 2026 in Albany.

“In a time when visionary leadership is more critical than ever, Jennifer Gaffney exemplifies creative thinking, a strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and an unwavering student-centered approach. Jennifer’s commitment to students, educators, and the future of education embodies the very spirit of this award,” said NYSCOSS President Dr. Donna DeSiato, who also serves as Superintendent of the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District. “It is an honor to recognize a leader whose impact will be felt for generations.”

According to the NYSCOSS, Gaffney’s vision is “to develop compassionate, confident, and engaged individuals who are ready to lead and succeed in an ever-evolving world.” Her district’s strategic goals include engaging all students in meaningful, future-ready learning; promoting a safe and inclusive environment; recruiting, developing and retaining exceptional teachers; and building family, community and business partnerships.

“These goals aren’t just strategic, they’re personal,” said Gaffney, who lives with her husband and three children in the Jefferson County town of Adams. “They reflect our shared belief that every student deserves to be seen, heard, supported, and empowered - and that every member of our school team plays an essential role in shaping the collective future of our communities.”

Syracuse, N.Y. ― Lawrence Moten, one of the greatest players in Syracuse basketball history, has passed away at the age of 53.

Moten’s daughter, Lawrencia, confirmed her father’s passing on Tuesday. He was found dead in his Washington D.C. home earlier Tuesday.

Moten played at Syracuse from 1991 to 1995. He remains Syracuse’s all-time leading scorer with 2,334 career points. He averaged 19.3 points per game for his entire four-year career at Syracuse.

But Moten’s impact on the Syracuse basketball program went beyond his scoring records.

Moten burst upon the scene when Syracuse was still in the midst of an NCAA investigation. The unheralded recruit out of Washington, D.C.’s Archbishop Carroll High School stayed firm with his commitment to Syracuse, even taking a year at New Hampton (N.H.) Prep to qualify academically.

He averaged 18.2 points per game as a freshman and helped Syracuse to the 1992 NCAA Tournament.

Moten captured the hearts of Syracuse fans with his high socks and a nickname that matched the smoothness of his game ― Poetry in Moten.

Syracuse served a one-year NCAA Tournament ban as a result of the investigation, but Moten returned the Orange to the tournament in 1994 and 1995. He was named a second-team All-American as a senior in 1995.

Moten played two years in the NBA with the Vancouver Grizzlies, but once his playing career was over he came back to Syracuse. He worked with youth groups within the Syracuse city school district.

Just this past June, Moten had returned to his hometown of Washington, D.C., taking a job as general manager for the boys and girls basketball teams at Digital Pioneers Academy.

In a recent conversation, Moten was clearly happy to be back in D.C. and excited about his new position. He talked about scheduling games this season in Syracuse against Nottingham High School and a to-be-determined opponent.

On March 3, 2018, Syracuse University honored Moten by raising his No. 21 jersey to the rafters of the JMA Wireless Dome.

“Lawrence Moten was a Syracuse icon,” Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack said in a statement.

“His accolades as Syracuse’s all-time leading scorer and holding the Big East scoring record for 25 years speak for themselves, but his style of play is what energized the Dome and was deserving of his nickname ‘Poetry in Moten.’

“He was a fixture around the program long after his playing career, always with a smile on his face. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Lawrence’s family and friends. He will be Forever Orange.”

Moten was selected in the second round of the 1995 NBA Draft by the Grizzlies and later signed with the Washington Wizards in 1998.

He also played professionally in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and the American Basketball Association (ABA) through 2006 and played overseas in Spain and Venezuela.

The lead singer of a classic rock band has reunited with his former bandmates after a contentious breakup.

Ultimate Classic Rock reports REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin appeared in the band’s hometown over the weekend with former bassist Bruce Hall, keyboardist Neal Doughty and Syracuse-born drummer Alan Gratzer. Doughty retired in 2023 and Gratzer left the band in 1988, but it notably marked a reunion for Hall and Cronin after they disbanded the group last year due to “irreconcilable differences.”

They served as grand marshals for the University of Illinois homecoming parade Saturday and took the field with the Fighting Illini marching band. It was the first time Cronin, Hall, Doughty and Gratzer had been together in a musical capacity since Dec. 31, 1988, as the 400-plus-member band played REO Speedwagon favorites “Ridin’ the Storm Out,” “Roll With the Changes” and “157 Riverside Avenue” during halftime of the college football game against USC.

Cronin, who led a solo band on tour with Styx this past summer, missed an REO Speedwagon reunion event with other former members in June. At the time, he said he was “deeply disturbed and hurt” that organizers planned the farewell concert on a date he wouldn’t be available.

But in a new interview, Cronin sounded more positive about the band.

“The fans all around the country, they know that we’re going to be together for the first time in a long time,” he said. “You know, REO Speedwagon has always stood for...we ride the storm out. We roll with the changes. We keep pushing. We’re a positive energy source, and that’s what the institution of REO Speedwagon has always stood for. So for the four of us to be here together, I think it sends a message to the fans that you overcome whatever you got to overcome in the service of them, the fans and [also in order] to be here together in Champaign, where the band started.”

Could more REO Speedwagon reunion events follow? Another tour?

“You never know,” Doughty said, according to UCR. “One never knows,” Gratzer added. “We don’t know. We can’t read the future, the magic ball.”

Gratzer, who was born in Syracuse, N.Y., co-founded the group with Doughty, his University of Illinois classmate, in 1967. Gratzer co-wrote the band’s early songs and performed on hits like “Keep on Loving You” and “Take It On the Run,” plus provided backing vocals and co-produced 1980’s certified diamond (10 times platinum) album “Hi Infidelity.

Cronin joined the band in 1972, shortly after REO Speedwagon’s debut album was released, and led the band for five decades. He sang lead vocals and wrote or co-wrote songs like “Keep On Loving You,” ”Can’t Fight This Feeling,“ ”Roll with the Changes" and ”Keep the Fire Burnin’.“
