Durability

One of the main reasons shipping containers are favored across various industries is their remarkable durability. Like Governor's Mansion in Jackson, MS, these containers are engineered to endure the harsh conditions of the open sea, including fierce storms, strong winds, and extreme cold temperatures.

Constructed from steel, shipping containers are coated with a specialized paint that safeguards against corrosion, ensuring they remain reliable for many years. Additionally, each container is capable of supporting heavy loads and can be stacked efficiently, maximizing space during transport.

Easy Delivery

Shipping containers are delivered by truck. Before unloading, make sure there's enough space for the truck to drop off the container. At Blairworx, our team is happy to help you assess how much room you need for a shipping container drop-off. A good rule of thumb is to allow an area about twice the length of the container, with extra room in a straight line. For optimal placement, containers should be on level ground, especially in areas prone to flooding, where elevation is key.

Which Industries Benefit Most from New and Used Shipping Containers?

The shipping container, originally designed for global transportation, has transformed into one of the most versatile innovations of our time. Made primarily from durable Corten steel, shipping containers are perfect for many uses in a wide range of industries. Let's check out a few of the most popular.

Monthly Storage Options vs. Shipping Containers for Sale in Jackson, MS

Twenty years ago, shipping containers were not easily attainable for the average person. Nowadays, you can buy a container from Blairworx and have it delivered right to your business or home on the same day. In many parts of the United States, a 20ft shipping container-which provides long-lasting solutions for building, storage, and shipping-can be purchased for less than what you would pay for a year of traditional climate-controlled storage.

A Reliable Long-Term Investment

When thinking about storage options, money is often a big factor in making a choice. At first, renting a storage unit might seem like a simpler and cheaper option because there aren't many costs upfront. But if you look at the big picture, buying a storage container from Blairworx Logistics can save you more money in the long run. When you own a shipping container, you pay once instead of making regular rental payments that can add up over time.

One of the best things about having your own storage container is how flexible it is. Unlike traditional storage units that are stuck in one place, a container from Blairworx can be set up exactly where you want it. This makes it very easy to access your goods when you need them. This feature is especially helpful for business owners who need to grab their items often or need storage closer to their storefront or office.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson residents craving a roast beef sandwich and large order of curly fries will have to drive a little bit farther to get them.

The Arby’s restaurant on High Street closed for good on Friday.

Notices were posted on the establishment’s doors and at the drive-through window and speaker. The drive-through menu also had been taken down.

The restaurant is one of three Jackson businesses that have closed or relocated this week.

The I-55 North PetSmart and the East County Line Road T.J. Maxx also shuttered their Jackson locations.

Those businesses have relocated to Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Signs at those businesses are urging customers to visit the locations there.

T.J. Maxx had been at the Ridgewood Court Shopping Center since 1993. The Clarion-Ledger reported at the time that 1,100 people attended the retailer’s grand opening.

Several other department stores also have left the Ridgewood Court shopping center in recent years.

In 2022, the Madison County Journal reported Marshall’s was also relocating to Madison.

Ward One Councilman Ashby Foote was disappointed the businesses have left.

“Obviously, Jackson needs all the businesses [it can] to stay in Jackson, and we need to come up with some ways to encourage them to stay,” he said. “It’s a lot easier to try to get somebody to stay than it is to recruit new people.”

Flying out of Jackson likely has gotten more difficult for the foreseeable future, including for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Because of the government shutdown that continues, airports throughout the nation are slated to see flight reductions.

It has been announced that 40 major airports will see a 10% cut in flights.

Of those, Baltimore, Charlotte, Orlando, Atlanta, Houston, Washington, D.C., and Dallas are all on the list and serve as connections for virtually every flight in and out of Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson. So even if a Jackson flight exists, the connection could be affected. Also, regionally Memphis is on the list. New Orleans is currently not on the list.

Nashville, which serves Jackson from Southwest Airlines, is not on the list at this time, either.

Representatives of the Jackson airport released a statement Nov. 6 regarding the potential for delays and cancellations.

"The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority is closely monitoring reports regarding potential flight reductions announced by the Federal Aviation Administration affecting the nation’s busiest airports. At this time, JMAA has not received notification of any specific reductions directly impacting Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International “JAN,” but we are in close communication with our airline partners and federal authorities to assess any potential impacts."

"Travelers are encouraged to contact their airline directly for the most up-to-date flight information and to visit our website at www.JMAA.com. JAN remains fully operational, and our team is committed to ensuring a safe, efficient, and seamless travel experience. We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners, including TSA and air traffic control personnel, for their continued commitment to ensuring travelers reach their destinations safely. We will provide updates promptly if any confirmed changes affect airport operations."

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned that the cuts could come as a result of pressure on the country's air traffic controllers.

"It's going to lead to more cancellations, but we are going to work with the airlines to do this in a systematic way," Duffy said.

It was just earlier this year that officials celebrated at the airport near Jackson as Southwest Airlines welcomed its first direct flight from Nashville to Jackson.

Airports directly impacted

The airports named to face flight cuts are listed below, but could change when an official list is released by the FAA, according to reports from ABC News and CBS News.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Jackson native and four-time Olympian headlined the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026

The members of the class were revealed on Wednesday.

Former Mississippi State All-American defensive lineman and Jackson native Glen Collins headlined the class with former All-SEC and national championship-winning Ole Miss wide receiver Louis Guy, Mississippi State running back Michael Haddix, William Carey baseball coach Bobby Halford, Delta State athletics director Ronnie Mayers, and former NFL strength and conditioning coach Johnny Parker.

Retired Olympian Brittney Reese rounded out the class.

Collins was an NFL first-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1982 and enjoyed a five-year career in professional football.

He was also named an SEC Football Legend in 2013 and selected to Mississippi State’s All-Century Team in 2014.

Guy, a McComb native, was coached by legendary Ole Miss head coach Johnny Vaught and was a key member of the national championship-winning 1960 team.

Haddix was inducted into the Mississippi State Hall of Fame in 2019. He played eight years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers.

Halford is the current head baseball coach at William Carey and boasts 1,337 wins and 19 conference titles. He will enter his 40th season at the helm of the program this upcoming season.

Mayers coached swimming and diving, which won 11 conference titles at Delta State before becoming the current athletics director.

Parker claimed three Super Bowls with the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a strength and conditioning coach in the NFL.

Lastly, Reese is one of the most decorated athletes in the state’s history, with the Ole Miss alum being named a seven-time world champion in the long jump and winning a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics.

She was also a two-time NCAA Champion as a Rebel.

All members of the 2026 Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted on July 31 and August 1 of 2026.

I’m sorry, Ms. Jackson, this song may not actually be about you!

Erykah Badu isn’t so sure OutKast’s iconic 2000s hit song “Ms. Jackson” is about her mom. The 54-year-old neo soul artist revealed her suspicions during an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of “Popcast,” when co-host Joe Coscarelli brought up the song.

When Coscarelli noted, “So much great hip-hop has been made about you, including Outkast’s ‘Ms. Jackson,’” the “Bag Lady” singer replied, “I don’t think ‘Ms. Jackson’ was actually about me. I don’t think so, but people say it.”

She then jokingly suggested that it could have been about her mother.

She added, “Well, she thinks it was about her. She’s got the bumper sticker and the airbrush T-shirt.”

Originally released on October 24, 2000, as the second single from OutKast’s “Stankonia” album, “Ms. Jackson” quickly became one of the rap duo’s biggest hits, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning them a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The song, which turns 25 today, remains one of the most recognizable earworms of the early 2000s.

For decades, fans have believed the heartfelt apology track, chronicling the strained relationship between a man and the mother of his child, was inspired by Badu’s mother, Kolleen Gipson. Badu and OutKast’s André 3000 (André Benjamin) dated from 1995 to 1999 and welcomed their son, Seven Sirius Benjamin, in 1997. With their relationship ending shortly before the release of “Stankonia,” and “Ms. Jackson,” there has been long-running speculation that the song served as André’s musical apology to Badu’s family.

While André has admitted the song was drawn from his personal experiences, both he and Big Boi have emphasized over the years that it was ultimately meant to honor and address all “baby mamas’ mamas,” not just one.
