As companies continue to expand their reach internationally, the significance of container shipping grows even more. When we speak to our clients about their shipping container experience, they often cite benefits like:
One of the main reasons shipping containers are favored across various industries is their remarkable durability. Like Guardian Building in Detroit, MI, these containers are engineered to endure the harsh conditions of the open sea, including fierce storms, strong winds, and extreme cold temperatures.
Constructed from steel, shipping containers are coated with a specialized paint that safeguards against corrosion, ensuring they remain reliable for many years. Additionally, each container is capable of supporting heavy loads and can be stacked efficiently, maximizing space during transport.
One of the biggest benefits of shipping containers is their versatility. While freight containers are great for storage, they can also serve as office spaces. In fact, with a little creativity, you can use your shipping container as both an office and a storage area. Blairworx Logistics' shipping containers for sale are great for a range of uses in many industries, including:
When it comes to shipping containers, the main replacement you'll need to think about every few years is the door gaskets. Shipping containers are designed for low maintenance, but it's still important to carry out an annual inspection to check for any areas where rust might start to form.
Shipping containers are delivered by truck. Before unloading, make sure there's enough space for the truck to drop off the container. At Blairworx, our team is happy to help you assess how much room you need for a shipping container drop-off. A good rule of thumb is to allow an area about twice the length of the container, with extra room in a straight line. For optimal placement, containers should be on level ground, especially in areas prone to flooding, where elevation is key.
A shipping container is an excellent solution for storing your products, important documents, valuable equipment, and just about anything else that matters to you. Unlike other companies that provide standard storage options, we offer fully customizable solutions designed to meet your unique needs.

But if you have long-lasting storage needs, it could be time to explore a more affordable solution.
Twenty years ago, shipping containers were not easily attainable for the average person. Nowadays, you can buy a container from Blairworx and have it delivered right to your business or home on the same day. In many parts of the United States, a 20ft shipping container-which provides long-lasting solutions for building, storage, and shipping-can be purchased for less than what you would pay for a year of traditional climate-controlled storage.
When thinking about storage options, money is often a big factor in making a choice. At first, renting a storage unit might seem like a simpler and cheaper option because there aren't many costs upfront. But if you look at the big picture, buying a storage container from Blairworx Logistics can save you more money in the long run. When you own a shipping container, you pay once instead of making regular rental payments that can add up over time.
One of the best things about having your own storage container is how flexible it is. Unlike traditional storage units that are stuck in one place, a container from Blairworx can be set up exactly where you want it. This makes it very easy to access your goods when you need them. This feature is especially helpful for business owners who need to grab their items often or need storage closer to their storefront or office.

Detroit, MI — Wednesday, October 15, 2025 — The Michigan Federation of Black Chambers of Commerce (MFBCC), together with its 24 affiliated chapters representing more than 120,000 Black-owned businesses across Michigan and 49,000 Black Business Enterprises (BBEs) in Detroit, extends its unified support for the future administration of The Honorable Mary Sheffield, Detroit City Council President and poised to become the first woman—and 76th—Mayor of the City of Detroit.
“Council President Mary Sheffield has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Detroit’s Black business community since the earliest days of her public service,” said Dr. Ken L. Harris, President & CEO of the National Business League. “Her dedication to equitable economic opportunity, small business empowerment, and community revitalization reflects the very principles the Detroit Black Chamber was founded upon. We look forward to working collaboratively with her administration on a national and local level to advance Detroit’s continued growth and prosperity.”
Born and raised in Detroit, Mary Sheffield is a leader whose vision for inclusive progress is rooted in service, integrity, and legacy. From her earliest days in public office, Sheffield has consistently championed policies that strengthen families, expand access to opportunity, and build pathways for historically underserved entrepreneurs. Her great-grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit continues to inspire her mission to ensure that Detroit’s comeback is one in which all communities can thrive.
“Mary Sheffield carries forward a proud family tradition of entrepreneurship and service,” said Crystal Gunn, Chairwoman of the Detroit Black Chamber of Commerce. “We are inspired by her commitment to advancing an inclusive economic ecosystem. As she steps into this historic new role, we look forward to working with her administration to expand opportunity for Detroit’s business community—particularly our Black entrepreneurs and business owners.”
Sheffield’s vision—captured in her “Mary Means Business” initiative—resonates deeply with Detroit’s entrepreneurial community. Her focus on empowering small businesses, promoting equitable development, and strengthening neighborhood-based growth aligns with the Chamber’s mission to create a more vibrant and inclusive economic future for all Detroiters.
“Detroit’s Black Business Enterprises represent the heart of our city’s economic story,” said Bartel Welch, President of the Detroit Black Chamber of Commerce. “With thoughtful leadership and a shared commitment to innovation and inclusion, Detroit can once again serve as a national model for entrepreneurship and economic independence. We believe Mayor-elect Sheffield’s administration is positioned to help write that next great chapter.”

4Warn Weather – After the unseasonably warm temperatures we’ve seen from September and into October, we’re looking ahead to the winter forecast, and this looks to be a little interesting, especially if you’re a fan of winter weather!
As of right now, we’re forecasting La Niña conditions to set up, and stick around through the end of 2025, and start of 2026.
La Niña is characterized by unusually cold ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific, compared to El Niño, which is characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific.
During a La Niña winter, temperatures are warmer than normal in the Southeast United States and cooler than normal in the Northwest United States.
In terms of precipitation during a La Niña winter, with the jetr stream going from the upper midwest through the Ohio Valley and off the eastern seaboard, this places the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes in a wetter than average setup, along with the pacific northwest, while drier than average conditions are forecast from the Southwestern United States, through the Gulf States and down into Florida.

A local planning commission has recommended denying a large-scale data center proposal outside Detroit, Michigan.
Local press, including WHMI and Livingstone Daily, report Stantec Consulting Michigan and Randee LLC have requested to rezone nearly 1,000 acres in Howell Township for a data center campus.
Full details on the planned data centers weren’t shared, but local reports suggest up to ten single-story buildings are being proposed.
However, the Howell Township planning commission voted unanimously to recommend denying the proposal this week. The final decision will be made by the township board at a later date; the Livingston County planning commission will also make a recommendation to the Howell Township board.
Howell Township, in Livingston County, is some 60 miles (96.5km) northwest of downtown Detroit. The commission cited changes needed to the township master plan in order to approval the project as one of the reasons for rejection during a marathon seven-hour meeting.
An unnamed “Fortune 100 technology firm that develops, owns, and operates technology campuses globally as an end user and owner/operator” –likely one of the large hyperscale cloud providers – is set to be the end-user of the campus if it goes ahead. Evaluation work for the site has reportedly been going on since mid-2024.
The project would include across numerous parcels east of Handy Township along Marr Road, Fleming Road, Warner Road and Owosso Road. The parcels that make up the site are currently zoned as AR – Agricultural Residential, SFR – Single Family Residential, and NSC – Neighborhood Service Commercial and would be rezoned to RT – Research and Technology.
Much of the land in question is owned by local farmer Ryan Van Gilder, who called the project a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to welcome one of the largest and most respected companies in the world to our hometown.”
As is becoming increasingly common with large-scale data center proposals in largely rural areas, local residents are unhappy with the plans. A Change.org petition - Stop the Construction of Michigan's Largest Data Center in Howell – has garnered more than 2,100 signatures at time of writing. The 2020 census put the township’s population at just under 7,900.
“This data center would drastically change Howell as we know it, using massive amounts of energy, polluting our beautiful rural environment, and increasing energy costs for residents,” the petition states.
A Facebook group, Stop the Data Centers – Livingston County, has also been set up with around 1,300 members.
Operators around Detroit include EdgeConneX, US Signal, Cogent, 365, Lumen, Verizon, and several local providers, including 123Net.
Thor Equities is seeking to develop an 800-acre campus in Washtenaw County’s Augusta Township, and has faced pushback from local officials. Related Digital is proposing to develop a 2.2 million sq ft (204,385 sqm) campus in Saline Township, Washtenaw County.
