Durability

One of the main reasons shipping containers are favored across various industries is their remarkable durability. Like Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, MD, these containers are engineered to endure the harsh conditions of the open sea, including fierce storms, strong winds, and extreme cold temperatures.

Constructed from steel, shipping containers are coated with a specialized paint that safeguards against corrosion, ensuring they remain reliable for many years. Additionally, each container is capable of supporting heavy loads and can be stacked efficiently, maximizing space during transport.

Easy Delivery

Shipping containers are delivered by truck. Before unloading, make sure there's enough space for the truck to drop off the container. At Blairworx, our team is happy to help you assess how much room you need for a shipping container drop-off. A good rule of thumb is to allow an area about twice the length of the container, with extra room in a straight line. For optimal placement, containers should be on level ground, especially in areas prone to flooding, where elevation is key.

Which Industries Benefit Most from New and Used Shipping Containers?

The shipping container, originally designed for global transportation, has transformed into one of the most versatile innovations of our time. Made primarily from durable Corten steel, shipping containers are perfect for many uses in a wide range of industries. Let's check out a few of the most popular.

Onsite Storage Shipping Containers for Sale in Baltimore, MD

Whether you're expanding your commercial operations or moving out of your house, at some point, there's a chance you'll need additional storage. According to recent data, nearly 40% of Americans are currently using self-storage. If you need a short-term solution, a storage facility might work. But if you have long-lasting storage needs, it could be time to explore a more affordable solution.

Monthly Storage Options vs. Shipping Containers for Sale in Baltimore, MD

Twenty years ago, shipping containers were not easily attainable for the average person. Nowadays, you can buy a container from Blairworx and have it delivered right to your business or home on the same day. In many parts of the United States, a 20ft shipping container-which provides long-lasting solutions for building, storage, and shipping-can be purchased for less than what you would pay for a year of traditional climate-controlled storage.

A Reliable Long-Term Investment

When thinking about storage options, money is often a big factor in making a choice. At first, renting a storage unit might seem like a simpler and cheaper option because there aren't many costs upfront. But if you look at the big picture, buying a storage container from Blairworx Logistics can save you more money in the long run. When you own a shipping container, you pay once instead of making regular rental payments that can add up over time.

One of the best things about having your own storage container is how flexible it is. Unlike traditional storage units that are stuck in one place, a container from Blairworx can be set up exactly where you want it. This makes it very easy to access your goods when you need them. This feature is especially helpful for business owners who need to grab their items often or need storage closer to their storefront or office.

BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — The Baltimore City Fire Department battled a four-alarm fire on Friday, resulting in 23 evacuations in the Remington area.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the fire has been contained, but crews expect to work late into the night to fully extinguish it.

Fire crews responded to the area of 23rd Street and Hampden Road in Remington around 1:30 p.m.

Chief James Wallace of the Fire Department stated that when the crews arrived on the scene, it quickly escalated to a second alarm fire at 1:32 p.m., followed by a third alarm at approximately 2:00 p.m., and then a fourth alarm at 2:07 p.m.

The fire is located on two separate addresses, 2230 Hamden Ave and 2235 Hamden Ave, because the warehouse that caught fire is about 50 feet wide and 500 feet long.

The fire is believed to have started on the exterior of the building and was wind-driven into the building, officials said.

The warehouse housed two businesses, and Chief Wallace believes the ground-floor business is a woodworking operation, while the second-floor business is believed to be a toy distribution/manufacturing facility.

Joey Henderson of the Office of Emergency Management said that homes in the 400 block of W. 23rd Street were evacuated.

All 23 civilians who evacuated were transported to a nearby church, according to authorities.

The Maryland Transit Administration announced a temporary southbound detour for the LocalLink 94 bus to Fort McHenry until 5 p.m.

There are no reported injuries among firefighters or civilians, Chief Wallace said.

Firefighters from BCFD absolutely saved the houses back here on 23rd street. 100% put themselves between this warehouse and these residents' homes," Wallace said.

The Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company in Harford stated that their Engine 814 was transferred to Baltimore City to help with coverage as the City crew battles the fire in Remington.

The Clavel bar, located on West 23rd Street, posted on social media stating their restaurant will be closed on Friday due to the fire, but that everyone evacuated safely.

The American Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region said it supported about 25 families displaced by the fire. Trained disaster responders mobilized an emergency response vehicle and provided food, water and comfort kits to residents.

In the days and weeks to come, the Red Cross said it will continue working with affected residents to provide more recovery resources and help them get back on their feet, as neccessary.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County is no longer listed as a sanctuary jurisdiction after it signed an agreement to work with immigration officials. County officials say the agreement doesn't change any practices, but it formalizes existing procedures.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday that Baltimore County signed a memorandum of understanding with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The DOJ had listed Baltimore County as a sanctuary jurisdiction on Aug. 5, but County Executive Kathy Klausmeier (D) at the time called the designation a mistake. Baltimore County is the second jurisdiction nationally to be removed from the list.

"Despite restrictions from state leadership, Baltimore County has shown a willingness to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement," Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said in a press release. "This is a small step toward restoring public safety and we appreciate the county's commitment to updating its policies."

The memo says the Baltimore Field Office of ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations will notify the Baltimore County Department of Corrections when a judge places a detainer on a person or issues a relevant warrant.

The Department of Corrections will, conversely, notify ICE when a person with a detainer is scheduled to be released from custody.

"There has been no change to County policies or practices," Dakarai Turner, a spokesperson for the county executive, told Patch in a Monday email. "The MOU simply puts in writing procedures developed in 2024 that ensure appropriate notice to the federal government when releasing detainees. Baltimore County continues to respect the constitutional rights of all residents while prioritizing public safety."

Baltimore County created a webpage with answers to frequently asked questions regarding the agreement that revoked the sanctuary designation.

"Inclusion on DOJ's list could risk significant federal funding, on which the County and constituents depend," the FAQ webpage says. "Signing the MOU ensures that the County avoids risks to federal funding that is used to provide needed services to Baltimore County residents."

The memo is not a 287(g) agreement with ICE. That means the county will not conduct any immigration enforcement itself. The county will only notify ICE of the aforementioned inmate releases.

Patch contacted ICE and the DOJ for comments. We will update this story if any reply. Notifications on the ICE and DOJ websites say their responses to reporters may be delayed because of the government shutdown.

Baltimore County Pledges $4M To Food Resources Amid SNAP Disruption

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County officials on Friday said they plan to direct $4 million to local food assistance and resources in an effort to help residents and federal workers affected by the federal government shutdown.

The announcement came as Marylanders brace for looming cuts to federal food aid amid the ongoing shutdown, which is now in its fifth week.

More than 693,000 low-income Marylanders, including more than 270,000 children, are set to lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) assistance in November after the U.S. Department of Agriculture informed states that benefits would not be paid during the shutdown.

In Baltimore County, about 50,000 households, representing 100,000 residents, receive about $18.6 million in SNAP benefits each month.

In a statement, Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier said the money would be drawn from the county's supplemental fund balance and ensure families are not left without food.

“Baltimore County is stepping up to make sure families and federal employees in the County aren’t left behind,” Klausmeier said. “Food insecurity can happen quickly when paychecks stop, and we are helping to bridge that gap."

Here's a detailed breakdown of where the county plans to allocate the $4 million:

$3 million will support existing grantees engaged in food security efforts, including:

$750,000 will support existing county vendors providing food access, including:

The county said $500,000 will support additional nonprofits and philanthropic organizations. Eligible organizations can apply for funding through the Baltimore Community Foundation beginning the week of Nov. 10.

Residents in need of food assistance can locate nearby food distribution sites using the county’s Food Pantry Locator web tool, which provides details on hours of operation, contact information and directions.

A full list of food and community resources can also be found on the Baltimore County Government website.

The move by Baltimore County officials came a day after Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency due to the "widespread economic disruption and damage to the welfare of Marylanders caused by the prolonged shutdown of federal government operations."

In his executive order, Moore directed the state to send $10 million to Maryland food banks ahead of the lapse in SNAP benefits.

While the funds will not supplement lost SNAP benefits, the order directs money for food banks to be taken from the state's fiscal responsibility fund and administered by the Maryland Department of Human Services.

Other Baltimore County agencies are also working to ensure federal workers impacted by the shutdown continue to have access to resources, including internet access, resume writing support and more.

Several resources are available at the Baltimore County Public Library.

"Baltimore County is home to over 13,000 federal civilian jobs and 76 federal work establishments, along with several nonprofits that are navigating these uncertain times," library staff said in a news release. "As a trusted community institution, the library invites families to explore how our branches can help during this time."

Resources that can be found at the Baltimore County Public Library include:

Baltimore County Public Library has 19 branches and four mobile units. Branches are open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and select branches are open Sunday, 1-5 p.m. The digital library is available 24/7.
